 Skill Center Positions:Right Field

Sammy Sosa, Vladimir Guerrero and Raul Mondesi are some of the best right fielders today. All of these players have tremendous arms and can hit for average on a consistent basis. The outfielders are known for throwing out runners at both third base and home.

The difference between both left and center field compared to right is that the right fielder exhibits the strongest arm. One of the biggest plays is a runner advancing from first to third on a base hit. A strong arm in right perhaps may have that runner thinking twice about trying to take that extra base. Over the course of the season a right fielder can save his team many runs and possibly games.

As well as a strong arm a right fielder needs to be able judge fly balls, ground balls, and line-drives. Quick feet and good lateral movement can save time and increase a player’s range on the field. Speed is not as important if the outfielder is able to read the ball off of the bat and get good jumps to make the play.
