 Skill Center Positions:3rd Base

When people talk about the “hot corner” they are talking about third base. Third basemen are generally fearless competitors, have quick reactions, good instincts and a strong arm. They are also responsible for many bunt coverages that are instilled in the team defense. The toughest play for a third-basemen to make is the bare-handed play on a drag bunt with a speedy runner.
Chipper Jones, Cal Ripkin and Robin Ventura have all made a living holding down the “hot corner.” As hitters, most third basemen hit for great average and add some power to the lineup. Like first basemen, third basemen have good lateral movement and quick feet. Preventing hard hit balls from entering the left field corner is solely the “3-bagger’s” responsibilty, and taking away the double in a close game will surely give your team the upper hand and lead you to victory.
